Stress

I'm feeling a bit stressed these days.
I have two high-pressures things to do within a week.
Both have been brewing for a while.
The first thing is tomorrow (Wed), and it's been on the boil since September. It's about a 6 out of ten on the stress scale.
The second thing is worse, and has been hanging over me for about three and a half years. It's definitely a ten out of ten. It's hitting boiling point next week.

The butterflies are in full flight. I'm bilious and queasy. I'm nervous, irritable, cranky and a bit scared.
Any tips on getting through tough times?

P.S. My first-born starts his Leaving Cert exams tomorrow too. He's extremely laid back, cool and calm - long may it last!

Pot of tea and a good friend always work for me.
Will I put the kettle on so?

Have a walk of an evening and a good soak in the bath afterwards. Good luck with everything, and to the laid back leaving certer.

Sounds lovely. Thanks, Devin and Conan. I'd love to tell you more, but I can't really. I might be able to laugh about it all in a week or two....

Deep breathing, I swear to god it works. When you feel yourself rattling up, take a physical step back and then breathe very very deeply, pulling the air right down into your lungs, hold it for a second or two and then release slowly. Repeat.
Anyway, whatever you're up to, velly good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly.
A deedly-doop to your lad too.

Thanks FMC (I'll try that straight away) and J (get a blog!!!) it means more than I can say that anyone cares!
Stress number one was completed today - just awaiting fall-out now for the next couple of days.

My young man was "happy enough" with English today by the way! He's sooooooooooo cool it's unreal. Has he been studying at 10 out of 10? More like 1... Better than being a nervous wreck, but blazes, it's hard to watch a young fella with plenty of ability squandering it! He'll be fine I'm sure.

Yoga, Yoga, Yoga.

I know I've been complaining about fecking up my knee doing yoga over on my blog, (I was doing a very strenous and relatively advanced workout, and just wasn't paying proper attention), but it will relax you to levels you didn't know were possible. If you keep it up regularly and internalise what you learn, you won't get that stressed in the beginning. Seriously, it can change your life if you practice routinely.

Thanks, John. I've never done yoga. I have a bad back, so I've never fancied sitting on the floor cross-legged and twisting myself in tricky positions. Have I got it all wrong?

Delighted, J! E-mail me the address and I'll be over for a snoop!!

You probably need to get your Dr's advice, but Yoga can be very good for a back too. The thing about Yoga, is it can be very gently or extremely challenging, but one way or the other you have to work up to anything difficult, and although a workout, the beginner poses shouldn't be too hard on you. Most Yoga teachers, (the good ones), will ask you what ails ya and advice you not to do certain poses.

I can't do headstands, not that I can't, (I can hold them for ages), I shouldn't because my neck is a little dodgy so...

Thanks, John, I'll definitely investigate yoga.
My stress isn't too bad usually, I'm really busy, but I'm able to cope ok. I just have two very high pressure events this week.... Well, one left now. The first one went very well in the end. (Promotion secured - yea!)
The second thing is a definite 10+ out of 10 for stress, but it will hopefully be all over this day week. It's a bit of a David and Goliath situation I'm facing. I'm the little guy who could get squeezed by the big boys, but I couldn't live with myself if I don't stand up and be counted.... Could be a big price for me personally though, and I am very apprehensive....
