People warned me that my car insurance people would give me a pain in my brain - and they have!
My car was "surveyed" by an "engineer" 3 days after the accident. A week later I am sick of ringing my insurance company. They say that the "engineer" has decided that my car is a write-off, i.e. they explained that it's beyond economical repair. He valued my car at X thousand euro. There's no way in Hell that I can buy the same make, model, year for that amount. I was invited to send the insurance company proof of higher values, so I did (about 20 prices from 2 Irish sites on the web). The insurance tell me that they will forward these prices to "the engineer", and contact me again "in due course". Meanwhile, I am driving a replacement car from my garage - day 11 today, but the insurance company only cover me for €120 total car replacement. Their heel-dragging is expensive for me, not them.
While I'm genuinely relieved not to be injured, and feel bad for moaning, I'm fed up with this tally-ho! Both my husband and I have been with the same insurance company for 20plus years without a single claim, so I expected better treatment than this. Naive??? Probably.

Yep, I'm in exactly the same situation- accident not my fault, took the "engineers" 2 weeks to decide my car is "beyond economical repair", offered me a pathetic amount of money and say I have to prove that it's worth more- surely if they'd got their act together they could have fixed it in that time & saved hire car costs! I'm the victim and I'm still being treated like rubbish! I just keep being told that they must "mitigate the 3rd party insurance's losses"- never mind my losses obviously! Grrrrrrr.

Sorry for your troubles, Emily.
Worst part for me was that my car was back on the road within a few weeks, sold to an unsuspecting creature for probably big money!!!
A year later, it was still in MY name - so watch out for that! I found out by accident.
