Black Ice

I met a bit of black ice this morning on the way to work, and ended up shaking hands with a couple of ditches as a result of my chance meeting.......... not nice! My poor car is a write off, but I walked away with two hands, two legs, no blood, so I'm very, very relieved and thankful for that. It was hairy though. I skated, spun, skated, hit the ditch, skated some more, spun upside down, hit the ditch, then for the grand finale the car turned onto the drivers side (mine) and slid wildly around on the road before hitting the ditch with a final bang........... Jesus!
I hit my knee on final impact, and my knee, ankle and back are pretty painful tonight, but it could be sooo much worse.
It'll be a pain in the ass sorting out insurance, another car etc... but I know that I've had a lucky escape, and I won't be moaning............ except for one thing - why didn't the council grit or salt the damn road? Banana Republic is alive and well, Bob!

Jesus, glad you're okay Mairéad. I think the policy is to grit the roads after the frost has happened...that way they definitely know there's a need for it...

Thanks, Kav.
Yeah you're right, no point in wasting grit sure lads!

Glad to hear it was only a close shave, it's been a bit scary around the Drummspot too, Mairéad. Hope the insurance crowd don't add insult to injury.

Thanks Conan - missing your blogs by the way, is the move almost complete?
Yeah, I've never had to deal with these insurance guys before (lucky / good driver???), so I'm awaiting their antics with a bit of trepidation.....
Then again, I'm ready to attack if they dream of messing me about, because I feel immortal after surviving my wheels leaving the road!! I have no idea how I escaped being badly injured.
Bit of shock setting in today (mmmmm a lot of shock) as what happened is dawning on me.

Mairead,
1.Phew!..I'm damned happy to hear you're okay.
2.Be very careful over the next few days and try not to be alone.Delayed shock from something like this can be very serious.
3.Don't worry about dealing with the insurance people right away.Let them wait and take care of yourself for a while.
I'm off to sacrifice a chicken to give thanks for your safe delivery.

Thanks, Devin, I really appreciate your words.
I don't know anything about delayed shock, but I feel pretty shaken (day 3) today.
